Toray Plastics (America) Inc.'s Technology Delivers Advancements in
Snack Food, Confection and Pet Food Packaging
North Kingstown, R.I. (June 10, 2004) - Converters and end-users
can now create cost-effective, high performance, non-PVdC-coated BOPP
packaging that keeps food fresh and has better aesthetic performance than
ordinary OPP films. Toray Plastics (America), Inc.'s new Torayfan® Clear
Barrier polypropylene (BOPP) films, made with proprietary resins, are
non-coated and have greater strength, improved feel, and equal moisture
transmission rates compared to PVdC-coated films. Innovative Torayfan®
CBS heat-sealable clear barrier film, and Torayfan® CBP non-sealable clear
barrier film, designed specifically to replace PVdC-coated film, are ideal
for packaging tortilla chips, extruded corn snacks, pork skins, crackers,
cookies, oil-based confections and pet food and treats.
"High performance non-PVdC-coated BOPP packaging is an extremely competitive,
advanced solution for applications that require moisture barrier and marketing
power," says Chris Voght, product manager, Torayfan Division.
Compared with regular OPP films, new Torayfan® CBS 70G and 80G, and Torayfan®
CBP 70G have improved mechanical properties that yield 10 percent higher
puncture resistance. Improved mechanical properties and advanced lamination
surfaces deliver high performance in extrusion and adhesive laminations.
Both films provide 30 percent greater stiffness and excellent oil resistance,
which also contribute to enhanced brand appeal. An industry-leading heat
seal layer enables end users to increase packaging speeds. All of these
benefits translate into substantial cost savings.
Manufacturers also value Torayfan® CBS and Torayfan® CBP non-yellowing,
microwavable and environmentally friendly characteristics.
