Toray Composites (America), Inc., located in Tacoma, WA, is a leading producer of high quality advanced composite prepreg materials serving the needs of the recreational, aircraft and industrial markets.

Torayca® prepreg materials are produced by Toray Composites (America), Inc. (TCA) Tacoma, WA. using the hot melt film process which results in superior prepreg areal weight and per ply thickness control. Our primary product line consists of 250°F & 350°F curing epoxies. Current reinforcement fiber product forms include: carbon fiber UD ( unidirectional ) & fabric, glass fiber UD & fabrics, and aramid fabric having fiber areal weights ranging from 90 gm/ m2 up to 370 gm/m2 , with others available on request.

Recreational and Industrial Applications

Torayca® Prepreg is used extensively in recreational and industrial applications such as golf club shafts, tennis rackets, fishing rods, diagnostic x-ray equipment, automotive and infrastructure. These applications use, primarily, 250°F curing epoxy resin systems. TCA offers a wide range of products for these markets with resin formulations tailored to meet client unique processing and performance requirements such as; tack and drape characteristics, packaging high x-ray transparency, and high damage tolerance, to mention a few.

Aircraft and Aerospace
TCA's Torayca® aircraft prepreg product line includes 250°F & 350°F curing epoxy resin systems for application in primary and secondary structures. These composite material systems have a wide range of performance.

In general, Torayca® 350°F cure prepreg systems can be categorized into toughened, semi-toughened and standard epoxies.

TCA also has available prepreg material systems for the following applications.

  • 250°F Curing epoxy for use in manufacture of secondary aircraft structures. This product is formulated for self-adhesive bonding to honeycomb core materials.

  • 250°F Curing epoxy for use in the manufacture of aircraft interior ducting. The product formulated to meet FAA flammability requirements and to provide high tack and formability for manufacture of highly contoured parts.

  • 250°F Curing epoxy having a 230°F hot/ wet Tg. This product is formulated for use in general aviation applications in a high performance low cost primary structure applications.

  • 350°F autoclave curing epoxy formulated for use in aircraft secondary structure applications such as control surfaces or landing gear doors. The system is formulated for self adhesive bonding to honeycomb core.

Quality
Through the implementation of computerized process control systems and SPC systems, our Tacoma, WA site has received numerous Quality System approvals including Boeing's D1-9000 Rev. A. TCA is the first Boeing composite prepreg material supplier for primary structure to receive "source delegated inspection approval," resulting in considerable cost savings. TCA has also been registered for ISO9002 and AS9000. The QA system is used in all of our prepreg materials, ensuring high quality for all customers.
