Toray Carbon Fibers America, Inc. produces TORAYCA®
carbon fiber using the PAN (polyacrylonitrile) process.
Recognized for its high quality and processing consistency,
the characteristics of TORAYCA®
fiber make it the preferred choice of designers and engineers.
Important characteristics of carbon fiber include: |
|
- Lightweight, strength, rigidity
- Minimal Thermal Deformation
- Versatile - Available in many forms including spooled filaments, chopped fibers, woven fabrics
- Electrically Conductive
- Acid, Alkali, Salt, Solvent Resistant
|
|
Aerospace |
|
TORAYCA®
fiber is recognized as a critical part of modern aviation and aerospace
applications such as the International Space Station, satellites,
rocket motor casings, and expendable launch vehicles like the Boeing
Delta programs. TORAYCA® is the only carbon
fiber that has attained certification from the FAA for the critical
flight path components for the Boeing 777.

|
Sports & Leisure |
|
TORAYCA® is used extensively
in the sports and leisure markets. Typical products include golf club
shafts, commercial and game fishing rods, wind surfing equipment,
bicycles, skiing equipment and tennis rackets. On a larger scale,
TORAYCA® fiber is the choice for America's
Cup sailboats and other high performance marine craft.

Civil Engineering & Infrastructure |
|
With its high strength to weight ratio and resistance
to corrosive environments, it was only logical for the engineers and
architects associated with the US building industry to turn to carbon
fiber technology for solutions. Already widely used in Japan, TORAYCA®
fiber is finding a growing market in the US as an alternative to traditional
steel constructions. Toray Carbon Fibers America is actively involved
in University and corporate programs designed to introduce composite
technologies into the infrastructure market. Whether used in the form of
pultruded rod, sheet, or as a wrap TORAYCA®
fiber is rapidly demonstrating its versatility and desirability as
a building material for the future.

|
Industrial |
|
New uses for TORAYCA® fiber
are developing at a rapid pace. From lightening a firefighter's load
to making an automobile more fuel efficient, lightweight tanks made
from TORAYCA® fiber are replacing heavy traditional
metallic vessels. Improved X-ray equipment, energy storage batteries,
ground based antennas, blades for wind generators are but a few of
the applications in which TORAYCA® carbon
fiber is changing our lives.

|
Petroleum Exploration and Production |
|
As our need for petrochemicals continues to grow, technology
must develop which will allow us to access the world's
vast oil deposits in depths beyond 3,000 feet. As
in aerospace, Toray is providing the offshore industry
with the material support and technology needed to
develop the sub sea components necessary to tap into
these important resources.
