Toray Carbon Fibers America, Inc. began producing TORAYCA carbon fibers in Decatur, Alabama in 1999, at a site established expressly for that purpose. The Decatur facility houses the world's largest single carbon fiber production line, with a nominal capacity of 4 million pounds per year (1800 tons/yr). TORAYCA carbon fiber production capacity will be expanded by 1800 tons in 2004 with the addition of a new line at the SOFICAR facility in Abidos, France.

Toray recently announced a doubling of capacity at our Decatur facility, to 8 million lbs/yr, by early 2006. This expansion includes construction of a 3600 ton/yr acrylic white fiber "precursor" facility which will provide feedstock to this new production line. After completion of the second line in Decatur, the Toray Group's global PAN-based carbon fiber production capacity will reach 10,900 tons per year.

While originating as primarily an aerospace material, cost-effective TORAYCA^® carbon fibers are used today in a wide variety of industrial and recreational applications as well.
